Summer Program 2025

Every year, CMC runs an awesome summer program for kids who love puzzles, board games, and fun, challenging math. Our activities help students develop creative problem solving skills, meet other children who love math, and get excited about future careers in STEAM.

We are now accepting applications for our 2025 Summer Program!

The program runs from 9AM to 2PM, Monday through Friday. We also offer an optional extended day service for parents who cannot pick up their children at 2PM. The extended day runs until 5:15PM.

WHEN & WHERE (weekly dates, themes, and locations):

***Enrollment Limit: Each student may enroll in up to 2 weeks of our Summer Program. We know our Summer Program is super exciting, so we want to allow all students the opportunity to participate.

  • Week 1 (June 30th–July 3rd) at MIT — Counting, Probability, and Fun with Fermi Problems

    • Explore questions that seem to be impossible to calculate: How many piano tuners are in Chicago? What is the probability of finding life on other planets? How many routes are there to your favorite ice cream store?

    • Note: the program will not be held on Friday, July 4th. Tuition will be prorated accordingly.

  • Week 2 (July 7th–July 11th) at MIT — Unusual Surfaces, Knots, and Shape

    • Discover how to get a double donut onto an infinite clothesline, what knots have in common with medicines, and how soap bubbles can save money.

  • Week 3 (July 14th–July 18th) at Harvard UniversityThe Hidden Math of Everything

    • From atoms and ants to the universe and Zeno’s paradox, students will investigate how math shapes everything around us: computers, programming, biology, physics, and more!

  • Week 4 (July 21st–July 25th) at MITHow Do Robots Think?

    • From basic logic to AI, students will explore the fascinating world of robotics and how machines make decisions. How do math and algorithms drive robots? How do these systems “think”?

  • Week 5 (July 28th–August 1st) at MIT — The Secret Lives of Numbers

    • Uncover the properties and origins of some of the most fascinating numbers in math! From prime numbers to pi and e, students will explore numbers that have puzzled mathematicians for centuries.

Please note the changing locations. Weeks 1, 2, 4, and 5 are at MIT. Week 3 is at Harvard University.

WHO:  Students entering grades 3-8 in Fall 2025. We also have a counselor-in-training (CIT) program for rising 9th graders. Sometimes, we also admit very advanced rising 2nd graders (see our Evaluations Policy below). We reserve the right to deny admission to any rising 2nd grader for any reason.

WHAT:  Our summer program features a variety of fun, STEAM-related activities including building challenges, number games, logic puzzles, and activities with our phenomenal guest instructors, many of whom are musicians, artists, architects, mathematicians, physicists, or engineers. Activities reflect the weekly theme (listed above). Click here for more information about each week's activities.

COST:   $700 per week plus our $50 registration fee, with the option for an extended day until 5:15PM for an additional $150 per week per child. The registration fee is applied per student per summer once enrollment is confirmed, and is nonrefundable.

FINANCIAL AID: We offer need-based financial aid to low-income families, with priority given to families from Cambridge and Somerville, though everyone is welcome to apply. The $50 registration fee is still required of all families on financial aid; the fee will be refunded after the Summer Program ends. If a student on financial aid fails to attend during their enrolled week(s), the registration fee will not be refunded.

EVALUATIONS POLICY:  If your child is a rising 2nd grader, they must first undergo an evaluation before they can be admitted to our summer program. To schedule your evaluation, simply fill out our application and wait for a CMC staff member to contact you. You may also email us at classes@cambridgemathcircle.org to schedule the evaluation before you fill out the application.
